The owner of this Anaheim Hills home needed a bit more style in their daily lives, which is why they came to APlus Interior Design and Remodeling for a swanky kitchen makeover.
Before
Prior to our remodeling, the kitchen just didn’t meet the requirements of the homeowner, in looks or practicality. They wanted more storage, and a smarter cabinet system that could conceal any and all clutter. Additionally, they wanted space for casual dining and entertaining. The solutions they needed had to be stylish enough to match the rest of their trendy abode, designed with a modern look.Restructuring
Our team helped the homeowner decide on a new layout for the transitional kitchen, one that made the most of the space while keeping the area open and inviting. Most of the cabinets and appliances were lined up against the outer walls in an L-shape, save for a large new double-leveled kitchen island, with one side serving as a bar and the other as a cooking space. On the other side near the bar, a small liquor cabinet area was installed in the recessed place between the walls of the living room. We designed custom cabinetry for them using Euro face frame maple with a dark wood espresso finish. Shaker style cabinet fronts were used on most of the doors, though Slab styles were chosen for the smaller drawers to keep the look streamlined. Some of the dish cabinets were effaced with frosted glass panels, and lit within for easy visibility. All of the cabinetry was fixed with Merrick handles, with squared off edges and a stainless steel finish that matches the new appliances. Seashell polished countertops by Pental contrast cleanly against the black cabinetry. Their 1 ½” straight edge keeps the style simple and in line with the minimalistic theme. A full height backsplash was installed with glazed gray horizontal tiles, and the floor was also redone in gray, with Eleganza’s Loft Grigo tiles in “Natural Grey”.Appliances
A Thermador Masterpiece Deluxe 36” Stainless Steel Gas Cooktop with 5 burners serves as the centerpiece of the kitchen island. This placement is the most functional, with plenty of counter space to accommodate food preparation around the range. Thermador also supplied the Topaz Series Dishwasher installed opposite the island, and the Masterpiece Series 30” Double Electric Wall Oven that has been encased in the cabinetry alongside the Samsung 28.5 cu. ft. 3 French Door Refrigerator. Facing the light filled window is a large stainless steel under-mount sink with a flexible double faucet. With our help, this client was able to turn the kitchen of their Anaheim Hills home a remodeled masterpiece. In the city of Orange, a homeowner wanted to enliven their abode with a kitchen renovation that brought a whole new level of beauty to their interior.
Before
The initial design of this kitchen actually wasn’t bad. It gave us a nice foundation to work with, as all it needed was some refinement and refreshing. Formerly, it was more closed off, with a counter and ceiling edge that wrapped around to create a separation between the kitchen and dining areas. It also lacked good lighting, and had old windows that needed replacing. Additionally, having the appliances spread out at different ends of the kitchen made food preparation less practical and caused problems with traffic through the dining area and hall.Restructuring
We started by clearing out the overhead ledge and counter that separated the kitchen and dining spaces. This instantly opened up the area, allowing for a better flow of movement and a more relaxed feel, and turning the layout into a U-shape. To make up for the loss of counter space, the client opted to have a kitchen island built, installed lengthwise toward the dining room to naturally tie both areas together. This island was built with maple wood in a Euro & Face Frame style, and finished in a dark Espresso hue. The homeowner wanted a more efficient storage system, so we did an overhaul of their cabinetry and built a custom solution that matches their way of working in the kitchen. Pull-out spice drawers are set in the narrow spaces at the sides of the new stove, and fold-out corner cabinets ensure no space is wasted. We built these new cabinets out of paint grade maple, lacquered with a creamy white hue called DE Swiss Coffee. All of the cabinetry has been affixed with stainless steel knobs and drawer pulls, and set with hard rock melamine interiors. To keep the traditional kitchen style, we used a Euro face & frame construction with Jianas style cabinet doors. Both the island and the rest of the surfaces were mounted with 1 ½” single bevel edged granite countertops, sporting a marbled gray color that complements the new backsplash of Highland Park Dove Grey Glazed PorcelainTiles. The result is a polished palette of cool neutrals that beautifully picks up the luminosity of the new ceiling lights, and the sun that comes through the freshly installed window upgrades.Appliances
The efficiency of the space was improved by removing the old microwave and oven from the cabinetry section in the dining area, and instead installing a KitchenAid 30” 4 Burner Glass Slide-In Range from the Architect Series against the center of the back wall. Above it, a Windster Range Hood was installed. A 1200 Watt Microwave Oven also from KitchenAid’s Architect Series was set among the drawers of the island, facing the windows. More items from this collection were chosen, including the 22 cu. ft. Counter-Depth French Door Refrigerator, and the 24” 4-Cycle/6-Option Dishwasher. For a modern farmhouse motif, the old sink was replaced with a large Blanco Cerana 30” Fireclay Front Apron Single Bowl farmhouse sink in white. In this compact Laguna Niguel home, our team’s space planning skills were put to the test. The result was a completely redesigned kitchen that flaunted both beauty and efficiency. Keep reading to learn how we managed to make a seemingly hopeless, tiny kitchen into the most luxurious part of the house.
Before
When our team arrived on the scene, the kitchen was very cluttered, cramped, and dark. The homeowners didn’t have much space to work with, so they resorted to stuffing things wherever they could. Its un-tidiness made the whole living space feel messy and suffocating, and the white finish on everything further diminished the appearance of space. Our team of professional Orange County contractors set out to plan a smart and efficient system that would solve all storage problems while lightening up the atmosphere.
Restructuring
The redesign stage had one simple goal: streamline everything. We set out to make the most of the little space available by using carefully chosen materials and storage configurations so that no part of the kitchen was wasted. We started with installing custom Euro style cabinets in rich African Mahogany that smoldered with a Perfect Brown finish. Contrary to popular belief, using dark colors in a small space actually helps it to appear larger. This principle was applied by wrapping the dark wood all around the room, relying on the shaded hue to recede back and thus visually open up the area.
The cleverly planned cabinets feature imported Birch plywood interiors, glass panels, and dark Belcastel knobs and handles. With pull out drawers and stacked interior shelving hidden behind the new cupboards, the residents can now easily find a place for everything while keeping the kitchen pristine. And with the newly built bar area, there is added seating space as well.
The warm tones of the Brazilian Cherry Jatoba wood flooring from Ark’s Sonoma collection play well off the cabinet’s deep color, as does the earthy gray tone of the Pacifica Wholesale Crema Bordeaux countertops with a 1 ½” Navid edge. To add even more interesting texture to the room, a tile backsplash was installed over most of the wall surface. The main part consists of Arizona Tile’s Split Face Pueblo Stone, and the lining tiles are Pacifica Wholesale’s Pacifica Pencil Liner Noce. Behind the stovetop range, a vineyard-themed plaque provided by the client serves as a personalized focal point.
Appliances
Rather than take up counter space by placing a microwave on top, a 24” Sharp Microwave Drawer was installed among the drawers beneath the bar area’s countertop. Opposite from this can be found a stainless steel Samsung 28 cu. ft. 4 Door Refrigerator with Counter-Height FlexZone Drawer and two laundry machines hidden behind custom folding cabinets. Thanks to the wealth of space opened up by the redesigned cabinetry, there was plenty of room to make up for the fact that the home lacked a proper laundry room.
Further to the right is a 24” Bosch Pocket Handle Dishwasher, and a new farmhouse sink. Underneath a bronze textured hood is a GE Cafe Series 30” Free-Standing Gas Double Oven with Convection Range. Its large oven capacity of 6.7 cu. ft. allows the residents to cook multiple items at once, a must-have feature for such a small kitchen.

Living in the picturesque town of Aliso Viejo is always more luxurious when all of that warm California sun can fill the home. The owners of this kitchen came to APlus with a desire to let the light shine in and refresh their abode.
Before
Prior to our renovation, this kitchen sported dated maplewood cabinets with gold hardware, colors that only darkened the space and made the kitchen feel like a blast from the past. The cabinet layout was inefficient, leaving a great deal of unused space. Overall, the room lacked any sort of distinctive style, and simply didn’t have the zesty energy of the home’s other rooms.Restructuring
We began the renovation by pulling out all of the old cabinets and even the corner pantry, planning a new U-shaped layout that wrapped around the kitchen’s walls and opened up toward the dining and family room. The client chose Beaded Insert Face style cabinets with Jianas doors, made out of paint grade maple. The new cabinets were painted in Whisper White by Dunn Edwards and given matching interiors of painted birch plywood. Clear glass panels were set within some of the dish cabinets, and all of the drawers and doors were set with stainless steel hardware knobs and pulls in various styles. Despite installing more cabinetry in this small kitchen, it actually looks larger than before. Every bit of space available was used for custom cabinets, and their clean white coloring now reflects the light from the windows to illuminate the entire room. The center island was also rebuilt to accommodate seating if needed, making the space more welcoming. 1 ½” straight edge granite countertops in a muted gray tone add some dimension to palette. The same effect is achieved by the vertical white wood paneling that makes up the backs of the open cabinets, as well as full height backsplashes of white glazed porcelain tile in horizontal and herringbone patterns. By painting the surrounding walls a shade of rich butter yellow, this transitional kitchen is injected with that warm, sunny feeling the homeowners were striving for. To add some contrast and a bit of sophistication, the old linoleum floors were replaced with Max Windsor Hardwood Floors in Mocha Sunset Hickory.Appliances
A number of appliances were selected from Thermador, one of our most popular providers of high-end appliances. A Professional Series 36” Gas Range Cooktop was installed beneath the new stately wooden hood at the center of the kitchen’s back wall. To the left of it was installed a Masterpiece Series 30” Double Electric Wall Oven with 4.7 cu. ft. of cooking space. On the opposite side of the kitchen, to the right of the double-bowl farmhouse sink is an Emerald Series Fully Integrated Dishwasher. The new refrigerator is from KitchenAid, a 21.8 cu. ft. Counter-Depth French Door model of the Pro Line Series. All appliances were chosen in a coordinating stainless steel finish, adding a contemporary influence to this beautifully revamped kitchen.Monday, February 9, 2015

After devoting much time and effort into finding a contractor that could execute their vision, the owners of this beautiful Long Beach home chose APlus to renovate their kitchen. With our help and expertise, they were able to transform their old kitchen and bathrooms into spaces that now match their sleek and modern personal style.
Before
The original kitchen was actually quite stylish, but its handsome look was far too traditional for the tastes of the new homeowners. Between the dark hardwood cabinets, granite countertops, and marbled tile flooring, it felt too old school to mesh with the hip, youthful vibe of the clients. The bathrooms, on the other hand, didn’t even have beauty on their side. Their plain white countertops and walls didn’t complement the murky green accent tiles or the ashen-toned hardwood floors, resulting in a look that was simply drab.Restructuring
The clients decided to keep the original L-Shaped layout, but otherwise wanted the entire kitchen gutted. We replaced the flooring with au naturale wire brush French white oak provided by the clients, creating a warm, golden brown base to work upon. A full height tile backsplash was installed upon most of the wall space, using Eleganza’s Nueva Laguna Typhoon mosaic tiles. Their metallic accents and mixture of charcoal and earth tones tie together the color of the floors and the new custom cabinets we built. Our proprietary Sophia Line cabinets were truly custom made for the homeowners. Not only did we design a whole new layout for their cabinetry, we also provided them with exclusive cuts rendered in our warehouse, enabling them to have uniquely shaped cabinets of superior quality. The clients chose Euro style construction with Slab horizontal doors, and a dark, striated Caarbone finish upon the Sophia Veneer. We even used the Sophia cabinets to build an oversized kitchen island complete with a seating area and butcher’s block. Shining silver hardware made up all the handles and drawer pulls, adding a modern gleam to the overall look. All countertops were made from Pental’s Lattice white quartz with a 1 ½” straight edge, introducing more contrast to the space. The same custom style Sophia cabinets and Pental quartz countertops were installed in both the master bathroom. Eleganza’s Loft style porcelain tiles in a creamy Perla finish were selected for the new open shower’s floor and walls. In the hall bathroom, Sophia cabinets were also built, but this time with a rustic Cokalda Artika finish.Appliances
To complete the contemporary modern look of the new kitchen, we turned to the Viking Professional Series of stainless steel appliances. A 36” Wall Mount Canopy Range Hood was installed over the 36” Pro-Style Gas Range, and to the right, a 48” Quiet Cool Built-In Side by Side Refrigerator with Glass Shelves rests within the construction of the cabinets. On the far side of the kitchen a 2 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave Oven, Viking Professional Custom Series was also built into the cabinetry. The main kitchen sink is a shining white Franke Farmhouse 33” Single Bowl Apron Front Fireclay, while the vegetable sink in the kitchen island is a Franke 15” Undermount Single Bowl Fireclay. The bathroom features somewhat similar style sinks, Kohler’s Vessel models. Would you like to create your own modern kitchen and bathrooms in your Orange County home?
